It turns out that our visit to Sanford Lagoons on Saturday resulted in three additions to my birding life list. In addition to the eared grebe (a.k.a. black-necked grebe), I needed to add American pipit and American coot. I'm pretty sure I must have identified a coot in the US before, but I don't have a recorded sighting before Saturday, so here they are.

Beautiful photos! Thank you so much for sharing! I have been to Maine...just once, about 60 years ago! (I will be 69 on October 27th). I went with my mother, my aunt and my older cousin, who drove us. We went to Old Orchard Beach and I have very fond memories of Maine.
