I arrived home one day last week to discover this little finch on the doorstep.
It stuck around for a while staring up at our door, like it was waiting to be let in. It’s possible it had seen a reflection of itself. We saw bluebirds attacking their own reflections last year and heard a story this week of one neighborhood where woodpeckers are breaking people’s wing mirrors. But it did seem to be eyeing up our wreath so perhaps it was hoping it had found a nest spot - we’ve also found nests in the wreaths at the cemetery before. If that was the case, the glass storm door was thwarting its plans, and eventually it moved on.
We actually got to enjoy some time with the new back door open today, however, when we got home from the Easter service. It was lovely to listen to the sounds of spring, while I made what is becoming our traditional Easter carrot cake.
