Day 12.143: Exile #2's Sunday Column #250

Exile #2 writes...

We took delivery of a new washing machine this week. The old one had been limping on valiantly but it was a relief when the new one arrived. We had taken great pains to measure the width and depth that we would be able to accommodate in our laundry cupboard but we had not thought to check the clearance we would need to open the lid. Turns out our laundry shelf is too low and the lid doesn’t open fully. So it is that I have been loading the machine with the lid resting on my head or held up with a pair of tights looped around a heavy detergent bottle. Well, no longer. Exile #1 has created an extra hand to hold up the lid for me.

It is quite effective and also quite delightful! It saved making a great big mess sawing through the shelf anyway!
