Day 18.211: Exile #2’s Sunday Column #534

Exile #2 writes...

We went back to the seashore after dinner yesterday to make the most of the beautiful evening but this time with a couple of young Exiles in tow. It was almost exactly low tide, so we were able to walk on the large flat expanse of shore and examine the various abandoned sandcastles and piles of treasures.

We were particularly interested to find a ton of these on the beach:

having just discovered earlier in the day that they are, in fact, eggs compressed together in a strip. They are laid by moon snails, sea snails that we have seen in other places but not really at our beach before. Apparently they are unpopular with clamdiggers because they are carnivorous and prey on clams, which are a popular delicacy here, but they have very pretty shells.

It will be interesting to see if this is just a one off or if we will be seeing them more often.
