Day 15.024: I made a whittle thing
...also a little thing:
I got a few whittling supplies for my birthday. One of the things I wanted to try and make was a chain. This one was supposed to be five links long, but for a first attempt three out of five is not bad at all.
I had to look up "Totin' Chip"! I have particular interest in "impossible" designs such as the chain and the ball in the cage. I think my interest started when I saw such things at the Altamont Fair a number of years ago.
One of my Goddaughters (younger than Exile #3) and her brothers were given a whittling knife for Christmas. Her younger brother ended up in A&E and the knife has been put away for now - not, my Goddaughter insists, until they are all older, but until their parents' nerves have recovered! I am glad to see you whittling endeavours have been more positive.
So far, one small injury (knife point through the glove) but only required a day with a band-aid on. Both the nature of the knives and the way you use them for this activity do mean that it requires a good deal of care!
The scouts in our troop were always whittling spears, once they got their Totin' Chip. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

DeleteThat's very impressive.
