Day 15.025: Shoveling a sleet load

We knew we were getting a storm today and that it would make being out on the road ill-advised. The storm started with some daytime rain, then dropped below freezing during the night, so it was always going to be icy. We had - at one point - been expecting 6-10 inches of snow.

We had that much precipitation, but most of it fell as ice pellets (or as it's known here - sleet). What fell was maybe a couple of inches, but it's incredibly heavy to move - and when you do (with a combination of metal spade and snow shovel or some help from a neighbor with a powerful snow blower), it looks like granulated sugar. A very surreal experience.

This video does not capture the heaviness or the work, but does, I hope, capture the sugary-ness:

  1. Same down here in your old NY haunts. Tried my snow thrower but it's apparently not as powerful as your neighbor's. Even though I have more of a slope than you, I'm basically leaving the white concrete in place as long as we can drive up it with a running start.

    1. That would have been our approach if it wasn't for the neighbor - as you say easily solid enough to drive on.
