Day 7.147: Live insects by mail

It's not every day you receive a package in the mail labeled, "Live Insects Open Immediately", but we did so a week or so ago. They were Painted Lady caterpillars as part of one of Exile #3's Christmas gifts.

The caterpillars have done extremely well - growing at an amazing rate - and tonight we saw that three of them have hung themselves from the lid of their little pot and one has already shed its last caterpillar skin to become a chrysalis.

Once the are all in that state and have had a couple of days to harden, they will be transferred to their more-spacious butterfly home temporarily before being released.
