Day 14.052: Above the surf...
Back on the same day we saw someone surfing at Fortunes Rock Beach, I took this photo:
I quite often take photos of fairly distant birds that catch my eye. I probably assumed that these were black scoters - we've seen them fairly regularly just off shore this winter. A closer look at the photo revealed the white patches on their head and I now believe these are - appropriately enough - surf scoters.
