We decided to go and cheer along with returning alums, current students and other parents.
We witnessed the running-through-a-paper-banner:

It helped that the home-team won by 65 to 7. E5N1 later said that playing in the pep band when the team is winning is much more fun - I can well imagine.
For the cheerleaders, a big win is a mixed blessing as they take part in the tradition of doing a set of pushups equal to the home team's total score each time they add to the total. They gradually looked less enthusiastic about that - although they didn't show it in the rest of their cheering:
When the last touchdown was scored, instead of trying to muster 65 pushups each, they cheered on a volunteer who did them in their place. I'm sure no-one blamed them.
