Day 17.300: Today’s birds

Still feeling the ill-effects of yesterday’s COVID and flu shots, I managed to get out of bed to join Exile #2 and the rest of the crew for our morning birding walk. This is some of what we saw (for some reason, in reverse order):

Northern flicker peekaboo

The same flicker - they are more often seen on the ground than in a tree

Red-bellied woodpecker in the same tree at the same time

Eastern bluebird using an unusual perch

Bluebird in a more traditional pose - and looking slightly annoyed perhaps

This peregrine falcon flew over quite low looking up and watching (or perhaps supervising)…

…this other peregrine which was chasing a greater yellowlegs

We saw them because we first heard the yellowlegs as it flew over high above the trees

Blue jay looking fine against a brown fall backdrop

Some ducks by the small waterfall

A group of American robins

Copper’s hawk that landed high in a tree close to where we were standing

It looks like it was doing some molting

American black ducks (closer) and mallards (distant)

Grazing Canada geese

A group of green-winged teal flew by and then completely disappeared when they landed in the marsh…

…but first gave us a nice flash of their eponymous wing markings
