Day 19.128: Back to Evergreen

I’m so behind on the birding posts. Here are some of our sightings from a quick visit to Evergreen Cemetery after church on May 10th:

Not a bird! Snapping turtle

White breasted nuthatch. We saw this bird and another go in and out of this hole

And here are a few from our visit this Saturday (nearly a week later):

Not a bird: woodchuck

Sleepy mallards

We watched this great egret…

…  stalking its prey
…attacking…
…success, and, surprisingly…
…stretching its neck enough to swallow the catch whole

Pretty successful for two brief visits.
