Ah, this is why we live in Maine! OK, so the week contained its fair share of sitting in waiting rooms until a car or a child was ready, but Friday was a pretty much perfect day of board games in the shade on the deck and kids in and out of sprinklers.
Even better, yesterday, friends came to nearby Old Orchard Beach on vacation, and we were able to join them for an afternoon of fun. We snagged some free parking (quite a relief after driving past multiple lots offering parking for $30), and staggered onto the beach. E5N1 was delighted to see his good buddy, D, and spent a happy afternoon splashing, building, wrestling and running.
Exile #3 and Exile #4 spent their time diving through big breakers. Eventually, Exile #3 retreated to get warm but Exile #4 made some friends and remained in the water for the rest of the afternoon. In fact, she spent so long in the water that when she finally emerged, she could still feel the motion of the waves.
We called in to Jimmy the Greek's for something good to eat on the way home. Exile #1 had forgotten he was wearing his participants' race shirt from the Beach to Beacon 10K he ran earlier in the day. He was caught by surprise a couple of times, when fellow racers and supporters stopped him to see how he got on. Maybe he didn't beat his personal best but just for a moment there, he got to feel like a true Mainah!
