Day 11.117: Cemetery sights

As we mentioned at the time, Exile #2 and I had a walk in the Laurel Hill Cemetery back on Day 11.101.

One of the famous occupants is Cornelius Sweetser - a local philanthropist whose bequest founded the Sweetser organisation. While we were walking, we spotted this - which made us think about the Sweetser name in a different way:

S W E E T S I R grave

We did eventually find Cornelius's grave with its humble assessment of the man:

Graveside plaque reads, "By his prudence, industry and wisdom, he accumulated a large estate. He disposed of it for the education, support, happiness and good of many persons. His name is worthy of lasting remembrance."
We also spotted some memorials to people who may have felt some pressure to leave a lasting monument due to their names:

Impressive monuments to Stone and Mason families
And - on a much more recent addition - liked this very Maine thought:

Freedom is a breath of air, pine-scented, or salty like the sea
