Day 14.155: Astronomy for beginners

Exile #4 has never been very good at letting us know what they might want on their birthday. If it ever happened, it was quite some time ago. However, we seized on a growing interest in astronomy  and bought a decent but simple telescope.

On Sunday afternoon we set it up and aligned the finding scope hoping for some clear skies after dark.

We were lucky with the sky, although our backyard does not have very good views except nearly straight up.

Later we walked down the street and looked at the moon and I managed to take a couple of photos with my phone held up to the viewfinder (I suspect that there is a better way than that, but this will do for a first attempt!
