Instead of doing a there and back again on the beach, we’ve taken to looping back through our local state park. It makes for a nice bit of variety as the walk back to the road from the beach winds past a pond and through the woods. It’s particularly nice at the moment, as the park is closed to cars, so apart from occasional walker, it is very quiet.
It has been a great year for fungi, and there was a whole new selection to spot as we walked. I particularly enjoyed a couple of specimens that were so close to the edge of the tarmac that they seemed to be planning to cross the road. Who knows? Maybe they were.
