Day 16.121: Sanford Lagoons

Yesterday's birding trip was to Sanford Lagoons a.k.a. the Sanford town sewage works. Actually, the "lagoons" part is behind the sewage treatment facility, but you do have to go during office hours and sign in at the administrative office.

We had an amazingly successful visit. Here are the highlights.

A muskrat towing a large piece of vegetation  - it later dragged it fully under the water

A snapping turtle, an eastern comma butterfly (not a question mark as we thought) and a painted turtle

Two of the three in the party

Even the Canada geese were on good form

LR from top: a white-throated sparrow, a killdeer, a warbling vireo, one of many yellow-rumped warblers, a female and a male red-winged blackbird, a song sparrow, a solitary sandpiper and an eastern kingbird

Some tree sparrow drama

And - star of the show - a Baltimore oriole (only very recently arrived we suspect)
