Yesterday, Dad and I had two outings - firstly to Bayview beach and Ferry Beach State Park with

Beach sightings LR from top: great black-backed gull wrestling with a surf clam, piping plover, two pictures of a few of the long-tailed ducks that we watched diving (they all disappeared at times), a distant common loon, a few of a large raft of black scoters, a tern (possibly roseate), a greater scaup (could be lesser) and another adorable piping plover. |

In the woods of Ferry Beach we saw a thrush (possibly Swainson's) and a pine warbler:
Our second outing was to Camp Ellis at the mouth of the river:

We had a great view of a common loon and a common merganser and some common terns |

We saw a lot of swallows - mostly barn swallows... |

...but not all - as evidenced by this tree swallow. |
Perhaps the day's greatest achievement was getting these photos of a small bird high in the trees behind our house and being able to use them to identify it as a northern parula:
