Day 18.093: Something yellow in the brush pile

We have a small brush pile near our feeders, but just behind that is a more chaotic and older brush pile. On Friday, Exile #3 and Exile #2 spotted something that looked bright yellow in it, and I went to investigate.

Discovery number one:

A yellow plastic dustpan embedded in the pile. How did it get there?

Discover number two:

A chamber in the pile just below the plastic item. It looked like some creature(s) had probably over-wintered in it - chipmunks maybe - it's around the right size.

I wonder if the plastic porch was just a happy accident or if either its location or the location of the entrance relative to it were engineered by the occupants.
