Our Project Feederwatch weekend had a spring-like feel with the return of some birds that have been missing from our lists of late. It was also a remarkably rainy weekend. Snow started the day on Saturday but once it turned to rain it really didn't stop until after dark on Sunday night.
Here is a selection of what we saw:
| Carolina wren. We had one (or more) well into the winter, but it has only recently returned after a several-week absence |
| The goldfinches are changing into their breeding plumage. Also pictured house finches and downy woodpecker |
| Red-bellied woodpecker - no sign of a red belly, but that blushing face is quite noticeable |
| Chipping sparrow - first sighting since the fall |
