Day 18.094: Spring (as in water)

Our Project Feederwatch weekend had a spring-like feel with the return of some birds that have been missing from our lists of late. It was also a remarkably rainy weekend. Snow started the day on Saturday but once it turned to rain it really didn't stop until after dark on Sunday night.

Here is a selection of what we saw:

Carolina wren. We had one (or more) well into the winter, but it has only recently returned after a several-week absence

The goldfinches are changing into their breeding plumage. Also pictured house finches and downy woodpecker

Red-bellied woodpecker - no sign of a red belly, but that blushing face is quite noticeable

Chipping sparrow - first sighting since the fall
