Day 7.331: Exile #2's Sunday Column #34

Exile #2 writes...

We decided on reflection not to go and cut down a Christmas tree yesterday on account of the snow, freezing rain and daughter newly returned from a sleepover. So instead we braved the cheek aching cold this afternoon. We were not alone but very quickly found our tree and set about sawing it down. E5N1 urgently pressed us to look at a different tree that he had found but on reaching the spot, grinning, he pointed out a tree which had been stripped of all branches, save for the top 6 inches, giving the impression of a Christmas Palm tree.

Back at the original tree, Exile #1 heroically took the job of lying down in the refrozen and quite hard snow to hack at the trunk. Then having paid, it was down to get it netted and onto the car. The rest was up to us: tying it on (not easy when you drive a minivan and you are on the small side), getting it home in one piece and of course, remembering not to drive into the garage with it still on top.

After dinner, we let the kids have at it and I think it's safe to say, it is not the tidy and characterless tree we had up last year...!
