Day 11.172: Exile #2's Sunday Column #211

Exile #2 writes...

As the song goes, it’s too darn hot. I’m pretty sure that’s true for many of us right now, whichever side of the Atlantic we find ourselves on. E5N1 is scheduled to be spending the next couple of weeks taking a swimming refresher course in a local outdoor pool. So one of us, at least, will have the opportunity to cool off a bit.

Yesterday, we happened to tune in to the local weather forecast to find some drama unfolding as a result of the heat - a tornado warning. They’re not completely unheard of in Maine, but rare enough to cause some excitement in the weather room. The meteorologist spent a good 15 minutes showing us maps of the warning area, the direction of movement, indications that it might have some rotation and, of course, live footage of the amazing lightning. He handed back to the news presenter, who had a breaking news story to tell us about - a tornado warning! Without further ado, he handed straight back to the meteorologist, who took a deep breath and got right back to it.

I think perhaps what kept us watching for so long was the fact that the tornado warning centered around the wonderfully named community of “Bean’s Purchase”, so named because it was bought in 1812 by a Mr Bean (probably not that one though).
