Day 18.233: Easternmost; birds

Today, Exile #2 and I traveled north and east to Lubec, Maine, the easternmost town in the US. We stopped for lunch in nearby Machias and had the opportunity for a little birding just across the road from our lunch stop:

Yellowlegs (likely lesser?)

Double-crested cormorants

After our arrival in Lubec, we had a little walk around as well as enjoying the waterfront view from our deck/balcony. We saw things apart from birds, but here are some of the birds we saw:

We heard both common and arctic terns, but I think all the photos I got are common terns.

It's a tern.

Although we entertained the chance these next three photos (of the same bird) are a parasitic jaeger (arctic skua), immature herring gull is very much more likely (thanks J). It was soaring in the distance.

We got to practice our gull identification skills again.

Bonaparte's?

Bonaparte's?

Bonaparte's?

Great black-backed gulls

Herring gull

Bald eagle circling

We also saw some "land" birds including some crows, a hummingbird and a few chickadees (not photographed) and these:

Rock pigeons

Cedar waxwing

Common yellowthroat

Not bad for a travel day.
