Day 14.056: Two, four,...probably two again

Today's walk on the beach waited until after lunch. That meant it was a couple of hours after low tide, but there was still plenty of beach for socially distanced walking. The later hour also meant we managed to persuade a couple of the kids to join us:

It was a few degrees above freezing and it felt very nice to be out in the sunshine.

Day 14.055: Bayview and Ferry Beach

Low tide was at 11 this morning, so we went for a walk to coincide with that. We parked at Bayview and first walked along to Goosefare Brook.

The tide was very low as we returned:

and, since we'd had both coffee and breakfast, we had the energy to continue to Ferry Beach State Park, where we left the beach and looped back to the car via the road through the park.

Day 14.054: No spoilers - but woah!

Our Friday-night family viewing for the last nine Fridays has been WandaVision - and as a TV experience it's been pretty close to perfect. Of course it was Marvel comic-book-turned-Hollywood nonsense, but like most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, it had heart and characters that they make you care about.
I loved it and it seems weirdly appropriate that the first MCU television series should happen during this period when even blockbuster movies are happening on TV.

It's not how Marvel/Disney planned to start what's known as Phase 4 of the MCU due to postponed movie releases and delays to other TV projects, but it was a pretty good way to get the ball rolling.

Day 14.053: What about eighteen robins?

People sometimes say "one robin does not a spring make" in a similar way to the "one swallow does not make a summer" etc.

Eighteen robins though - what about that?

Day 14.052: Above the surf...

Back on the same day we saw someone surfing at Fortunes Rock Beach, I took this photo:

 

I quite often take photos of fairly distant birds that catch my eye. I probably assumed that these were black scoters - we've seen them fairly regularly just off shore this winter. A closer look at the photo revealed the white patches on their head and I now believe these are - appropriately enough - surf scoters.

Day 14.051: In like a lion

March is said to come in like a lion and out like a lamb. I would say that in our experience, the first part is more accurate than the second.

Yesterday was quite a nice day in general but as evening fell we were predicted a quick flurry or two. It seemed unlikely as the sky was very clear, but moments after I'd been looking at a very clear moon, we suddenly had an impressive amount of snow falling.

It didn't last long - these photos were taken just 30 minutes or so apart:

Today was very cold and windy - definitely not lamb weather, but it's got four weeks to get its act together for that I suppose.

Day 14.050: Dragon; cakes

The kids like to remind me from time to time that I am the only member of the family that isn't Welsh.

On March 1st, I'm more than willing to eat under the dragon flag...

...as long as I get to share the Welsh cakes.
