Day 7.121: Exile #2's Sunday Column #4

Exile #2 writes...

It seemed that no sooner had we caught up with Exile #1 in Maine, than he upped and disappeared again, White Rabbit-like, to Indiana. He is doing an impressive job of adding to his states visited list but we're beginning to think he is avoiding us...! Still, he arrived back late Thursday night, in time to prepare for (and get a little jittery about) his first Maine marathon.

While he has been away, the weather has been perfect and, just as flowers are emerging throughout the neighbourhood, so are the neighbours, staying outside for as long as daylight allows. Everywhere people can be seen scrubbing salt and mud off their cars and nursing their brown lawns to a lush green. Ours may possibly have suffered a catastrophic outpouring of hot tub water (yes, we have inherited a hot tub,no, we don't yet know if it works) and is, therefore, extra brown and crispy. Efforts have begun to remedy that.

The weather was a little too nice, however, for today's marathon. We were hot just watching and could only imagine what it was like for the runners. Exile #1 did amazingly well considering the heat and we cheered him over the finish line.

Today was, of course, also Mother's Day in the US, a chance to celebrate what has felt like a different kind of marathon for me this year. I was treated to breakfast in bed prepared by the kids, discovered that Exile #3 makes a mean cup of coffee and received a host of beautiful handmade cards and pictures plus one of E5N1's quirky homespun games. We rounded things off at the beach this afternoon.

This week, we are looking forward to more sunshine and to having our first guests visit. Yay!

Happy (US) Mother's Day!
