Day 7.296: Exile #2's Sunday Column #29

Exile #2 writes...

Despite predictions that we would see nothing of the sort, we awoke to the patter of snow on our skylight and howling winds outside. Exile #1 and Exile #3 decided to be intrepid and go out for a run anyway, after which Exile #3 needed to be gently defrosted.

By mid morning, it was getting quite convincing and the verges were looking white on our way to church. Exile #4 and E5N1 went out to do their first bit of snowflake tasting when we got home and had intentions of snowball fighting although I think that turned out to be a little ambitious.

It's not going to stick around this time. Still, we round out the day with a red sky, white rooftops and a reminder of what is to come. It's just as well we have finally managed to put up the curtains that have been hanging around but not hanging until now.

As if to practice for the winter ahead, tonight we have had a power outage, giving us a chance to break out the generator and rehearse the routine should it be needed in the wild weather to come.

Funny to think that just a couple of nights ago the neighborhood turned into a street party, with fire pits on driveways and hundreds of people passing by. Whereas soon, we will be huddled inside in partial hibernation, waiting for spring to arrive before we emerge from our houses again.
