Day 18.129: Other wildlife at Sanford Lagoons

Heren some of the non-bird wildlife we spotted on Friday:

Painted turtle 

As we walked, the turtles were diving into the water from the reeds on the bank. After a few seconds, we would see them surface again like this a little way out into the water

Muskrat

Vole or mouse peeking out - we only spotted it because the reeds were moving

Juvenal’s duskywing

American copper

Eastern chipmunk

Around the time we spotted this we realized we’d each picked up some ticks on our clothes and spent some time flicking them off with a stick. 

We didn’t know the half of it though. When we got back to the car we each removed some more. Then, when we got home we stripped off our clothes and found many more:

Unfortunately, we have continued to find them in the house and the car each day since then - they are persistent and, clearly, good at hiding.
