We revisited the attractively named Jewell Falls today at Fore River Sanctuary in Portland. It’s a small but varied area of woodland, marsh and scrub, and a fun place for a quick visit. It was a little treacherous at times, thanks to the thick carpet of oak leaves and pine needles underfoot but it wasn’t at all cold. In fact, we found a selection of small children and dogs paddling around the waterfalls - a little unexpected for November - but then so was the exceptionally warm day.
