Day 14.175: Exile #2's Sunday Column #352

Exile #2 writes...

It may have been a bit of a washout for those celebrating the first back-to-normal(ish) holiday here in the US, but it has been lovely to wake up and hear rain on our skylight window - even on the third consecutive day. We may not have been having quite the extraordinary level of drought that is being experienced on the west coast but Maine has still been in drought for some time.

Despite the rain, we went into Portland this afternoon for a walk along the promenade. The narrow gauge railway was decked out with patriotic bunting and the schooners were out in the bay. We decided to head home for dinner and stay home this evening but there has been a constant sound of fireworks. It seems that people are making up for lost time.
