Day 18.180: Thursday birding

We went to a different spot - slightly down the river and on the other bank for our nature group morning outing today. This is some of what we saw there:

Eastern phoebe

Gray catbird

Great blue herons

Song sparrow - flicking its tail

Eastern phoebe

Snowy egret

Bald eagle - did a fly-by then came it to land near the water

...where it set to work on this fish carcass. I don't know if it had left it there, or if it was scavenging someone else's kill

This American robin was flying to grab the underripe berries from this bush

Great blue heron

Pilleated woodpecker

A raven was one of the first birds we heard, and one of the last we saw

In fact, there were young raven calls being answered by occasional adult croaks

These four are all young ravens and there was at least one still calling from the trees

So at a minimum there were six (five young and one adult)

I don't think I've ever seen more than one at a time before
