Day 17.182: Columbidae: disambiguation

Thanks to a reminder in the comments for yesterday’s posts I remembered that I planned to write about pigeons. On our first or second day in the UK I wrote about seeing courtship behavior from pigeons on the roof and my dad questioned it. So here is the rundown of my understanding of the species of doves and pigeons that we saw.

Clockwise from top left: common wood pigeon, collared doves, stock doves and likely feral pigeon (foreground); domestic pigeon. I think that’s the full set.

For those keeping count, wood pigeon and stock dove bring my tally from yesterday to 41 species.
