Day 17.192: Exile #2's Sunday Column #486

Exile #2 writes...

Back in New York, as we neared the end of the High Line, we caught sight of an intriguing structure over the Hudson River. Exile #1 quickly Googled it and discovered it was another park. We decided to take a detour.

It is called Little Island, and is a multilevel park with a small amphitheater at its heart. It has views across to New Jersey, to Lady Liberty herself, and also to Downtown Manhattan and One World Trade Center.

It’s always an exciting moment when you first get a glimpse of Manhattan - the scale of the buildings, of the George Washington Bridge, and of the Hudson River, but you can’t really stop to take it in (especially if you’re driving - thank you, Exile #1!). The park is a great place to pause, stand back, and be awed, whilst at the same time enjoying the water and the green space.

It appeared from the maps that, if we’d had time, we could have continued and walked to the tip of Manhattan in parks and green spaces. We did not, however, and so we retraced our route along the High Line and returned to our car and the long ride home.
