Day 7.174: A hair-raising trip to the beach

While Exile #2 was cooking dinner this evening, the rest of us ventured out for a quick trip to beach. We expected to be there for 20 minutes or so but that is not how things worked out.

We were about halfway from the car to the beach through the surprisingly thick late-afternoon fog when we heard a distant rumble of thunder.  We didn't think much of it as it sounded a long way away.  A few minutes later we heard another, but decided we would get to the beach before deciding if we needed to retreat.

At the beach, all was well:

Until my Dad asked if there were insects on his head.

We realised that there were not, but his hair was standing on end. Although it was not an experience either of us had had, we both remembered that hair-standing up in the context of an electrical storm was not a good thing, so we made a quick exit.

We never heard or saw any nearby lightning, but - although we can't explain it -  it would seem that we had a close call.
