Day 7.176: A visit to York

I spent a large chunk of my childhood living in Yorkshire, but a trip to the county-town York was a rare and special event. Today, in Maine, we visited York - which is not the county seat of York County - and is both further away and more accessible than its namesake was from our Yorkshire home in the 1970s.

Our day built on our itinerary from Day 7.151. It went something like this.

First we climbed Mount Agamenticus. There was a new book spread out page-by-page along the trails and this time we followed it in order. There was a fair amount of water under-foot, although it didn't affect us too much and the summit was very windy thanks to former-hurricane Arthur, but we had a good hike - going up the long way round and descending via the road - where we saw the strange split-but-not-split tree stump.

After that, we returned to Fishermen's Dock for lunch, where we once again feasted on fried foods and salads and - this time - added some lobster.

Then it was on to York Harbor, where we walked the Fisherman's Walk and crossed the dam and watched the incoming tide filling up Barrells Millpond.

And, in between we enjoyed a short visit to the beach, where Exile #4 and E5N1 engaged in a seaweed-fight:

astonishingly, without involving anyone else.
